This is possibly the longest week of the year. With break so close and all the fun holiday things coming up, it seems impossible to have to sit through a week of final exams. It helps to have little distractions from time to time when something you’re looking forward too seems so far away. It makes the time go by so much faster and helps reduce stress from finals or Christmas shopping. Luckily, there are quite a few events in Champaign-Urbana that can do just that. From decade trivia to holiday markets, this week just got a lot more fun. Check out a few of the fun things to do this week in town!

Monday, December 16th

Society of Wetland Scientists North Central Student Chapter at UIUC is hosting a Winter Market today from 1 to 5 p.m. This is a great place to buy gifts for yourself or others while taking a break from finals. The best part is that you don’t even have to leave campus to shop! The market will be on the first floor of the Turner Hall Atrium. You can find all sorts of handmade items from student makers! Learn more about the event and see what will be available by following this link!

Tuesday, December 17th

It is always the season for self-care, but taking care of yourself is especially important around the end of the year when stress levels tend to be higher. HealthSource Chiropractic of Champaign has just the remedy for stressful times. They are hosting a Holiday Make N Take this Tuesday at their office in the Round Barn Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. There, you can make nontoxic self-care items to take with you. The cost is about $5 per item, and you can make as many as you like. Click here to learn more!

Thursday, December 19th

Now that finals are over, you may just want a quiet night to read something that interests you! A mystery novel, a magazine, or the latest contemporary romance. If you love reading but need to get out of the apartment, try going to the Urbana Silent Book Club. Their motto is read, wine, repeat, and that’s all you get to do when you stop by the book club. Read what you want to your heart’s content, no talking requires. The book club will be held at Analog in Urbana from 7 to 9 p.m. Learn more here

This has been a very interesting decade to say the least. Some of it we’d like to forget, but you’ll want to remember as much as you can for Pour Boy’s Trivia night this week. Trivia starts at 7 p.m. this Thursday, so get a good team together and join in to win prizes and giveaways. Enjoy exceptional beer, have fun, and remember the 2010’s before we enter into the 2020’s. Get all the info about the event by following this link!

Friday, December 20th

From 1 to 7 p.m. at Savoy Theater in Savoy, Hospice Hearts will have adoptable pets for movie-goers to meet. The premier of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker won’t be the only thing worth seeing at the theater this weekend. See a movie, and then maybe give a cat or dog a new home. Help Hospice Hearts achieve their goal by adopting during this event. Click here to learn more about how you can help!

Saturday, December 21st

Take part of the Scandinavian tradition of burning a Juul log this weekend at Allerton Park! Many of us think of a chocolate log-shaped cake when we hear Juul log (or Yule log), but the Juul log is actually so much more. Celebrate this winter solstice tradition at Allerton where there will be food trucks, lights, and a large bonfire in the Meadow. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. with the fire being lit at 6 p.m. While you wait for the log to burn, you can also go on the Kirby Winter Wellness Walk and take in all the beautifully lit-up gardens. This event is free, but donations are always appreciated to help support the park and fun events like this one. Learn more about the event here

We hope you have a good week before break! Be sure to check out social media pages for updated holiday hours.
